Specialized Expertise
After World War II, the Army inactivated the base on December 31, 1945, returning the property to the city of Colorado Springs. It was reactivated twice in 1947 and again in 1948-1949 following the birth of the U.S. Air Force. Peterson Field experienced further transformations, including its redesignation as Peterson AFB on March 1, 1976.
The 1st Space Wing was activated on January 1, 1983, and the 46th Aerospace Defense Wing was deactivated on April 1 of the same year. The 3rd Space Support Wing followed suit, activating on October 15, 1986. These two wings were later deactivated on May 15, 1992, and transferred to the newly activated 21st Space Wing.
In a recent reorganization on July 22, 2020, the 21st Space Wing became a part of Space Base Delta 1, marking another significant milestone. Finally, in July 2021, Peterson AFB was renamed Peterson Space Force Base, solidifying its role in the evolving landscape of space operations.
Legacy EMS’s specialized expertise and their presence at Peterson Space Force Base create a synergistic partnership. This collaboration ensures that the base’s personnel receive top-notch medical support, enhancing the overall operational capabilities of Peterson SFB and reinforcing its pivotal role in space-related missions.
