Specialized Expertise
Langley Air Force Base, constituting one half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis, houses the Air Force units of JBLE. With the 633rd Air Base Wing as its host unit, this segment accommodates three fighter squadrons, one fighter training squadron, and various intelligence units and non-flying entities. Additionally, Langley serves as the headquarters of Air Combat Command (ACC).
Moreover, Langley plays host to the F-22 Raptor Demo Team, an elite group that showcases air combat maneuvers worldwide, aiding in the recruitment efforts for the United States Air Force. Their demonstrations, featuring the F-22 Raptor, are instrumental in promoting the capabilities of the USAF.
Fort Eustis, the historic Army installation comprising the other half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis, serves as a training ground for service members in transportation, aviation maintenance, logistics, and deployment doctrine. Its diverse landscape and proximity to the James River make it an ideal location for such training. Fort Eustis is the primary training hub for transportation MOSs and all helicopter maintenance technicians. Additionally, it houses the Transportation Regiment and absorbed certain activities previously conducted at Fort Monroe, which was decommissioned on September 15, 2011, under BRAC.
The presence of Legacy EMS at Joint Base Langley–Eustis reinforces the base’s capacity to provide high-quality medical support, ensuring the well-being and readiness of its personnel. This collaboration amplifies the base’s operational effectiveness and further solidifies its role in U.S. military capabilities.
