Specialized Expertise

Legacy EMS’s commitment to providing immediate and efficient medical support extends to Joint Base Langley–Eustis. Langley AFB, situated adjacent to Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, is a prominent U.S. military facility. The base was established through the consolidation of the United States Air Force’s Langley Air Force Base and the United States Army’s Fort Eustis on October 1, 2010, as per congressional legislation implementing the recommendations of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
While most joint bases share common perimeters, Joint Base Langley–Eustis is unique in that its components are geographically separated by 17 miles. The base’s full operational capability was achieved in October 2010, with the reactivation of the 633rd Air Base Wing to handle host unit and installation support functions at each location. The 633rd ABW, commanded by Col Gregory Beaulieu, falls under the jurisdiction of Air Combat Command.

Langley Air Force Base, constituting one half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis, houses the Air Force units of JBLE. With the 633rd Air Base Wing as its host unit, this segment accommodates three fighter squadrons, one fighter training squadron, and various intelligence units and non-flying entities. Additionally, Langley serves as the headquarters of Air Combat Command (ACC).

Moreover, Langley plays host to the F-22 Raptor Demo Team, an elite group that showcases air combat maneuvers worldwide, aiding in the recruitment efforts for the United States Air Force. Their demonstrations, featuring the F-22 Raptor, are instrumental in promoting the capabilities of the USAF.

Fort Eustis, the historic Army installation comprising the other half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis, serves as a training ground for service members in transportation, aviation maintenance, logistics, and deployment doctrine. Its diverse landscape and proximity to the James River make it an ideal location for such training. Fort Eustis is the primary training hub for transportation MOSs and all helicopter maintenance technicians. Additionally, it houses the Transportation Regiment and absorbed certain activities previously conducted at Fort Monroe, which was decommissioned on September 15, 2011, under BRAC.

The presence of Legacy EMS at Joint Base Langley–Eustis reinforces the base’s capacity to provide high-quality medical support, ensuring the well-being and readiness of its personnel. This collaboration amplifies the base’s operational effectiveness and further solidifies its role in U.S. military capabilities.
